Two Obama updates

Obama refused to pay "street money" in Philadelphia:

>"street money," a long-standing Philadelphia ritual in which candidates deliver cash to the city's Democratic operatives in return for getting out the vote. [1]

It's ironic in that his platform is mostly about buying votes with other people's money (tax money versus contributions).

-----------

>Facing an outcry from Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain, Barack Obama expressed regret Saturday for saying that small-town Americans embittered by job losses cling to religion, guns and hostility toward immigrants to explain their frustrations. [2]

Even his supporter Donna Brazile said on "This Week" this morning "Obama made a mistake." Huh? This is the first intelligent thing he has said, and it's bad for him? Well, okay, I don't see the gun angle, but religion as an emotional refuge is an reasonable theory and wanting to stop more labor supply to prop up wages is a perfectly rational (albeit destructive in the long run) idea.
Obama didn't explain his own religion at the time though.

I suppose it's a bit like the Ferraro remarks, too much truth to bear.
